I found this article about Rolls-Royce aircraft engines quite interesting. I think that whenever I think of PR or a PR crisis, one of my firsts instincts is "they need to be transparent", but as Horton points out, transparency is not always what's needed. Sometimes utter perfection is the only thing that can serve you, a principle that Rolls-Royce is finding out.
With engines failing in flight, nobody cares to know that Rolls-Royce is transparent, all they care about is that either A) Rolls-Royce has successfully remedied the problem, and it will not happen again, or B) that Rolls-Royce engines are no longer in operation in the planes that they are flying in.
