Second Thought

Jim Horton makes some interesting points in his post Second Thought where he discusses how important it is to use your brain when making decisions with the media. He highlights a story of a Broadway actor who was accused of spreading an STD by an anonymous tweeter. The cited article points out that this particular tweeter likely had fewer than 100 followers, and the story would have undoubtedly lost its momentum if the actor just let it die, though, rather than turn the other cheek, the accused brought a lawsuit and subsequently caught the interest of the NY tabloids.
The lesson to be learned here?
Determine what's worth messing with, and forget about the rest. As with any PR situation, you don't really want to attract negative attention.
